UX Design Case StudySimplifying a Workflow for CounterGoCounterGo is quoting software for stone countertop fabricators. Customers lay out a drawing, select the material, and then receive an itemized quote generated from their price list.
A series of long-standing pain points were relieved by studying the existing features, getting feedback from customers, and designing a simplified workflow. OverviewThe Customer's Task
Gaining Alignment with the TeamUnclear Where to Focus
Focusing on Miters and WaterfallsMiter and waterfall edges require extra pieces which need to be accounted for when calculating the material needed for the job, called the slab count.
To compensate, customers were drawing the extra pieces, which led to:
Creating a PrototypeA New Feature Using an Established Pattern
Successful Start But Missing Key ElementsTesting the Concept
Revisions and More TestingBased on the initial feedback, several key additions were added to the prototype and tested with a new set of customers.
Added the Ability to Include Returns and Back polish
If a waterfall is wider than the cabinet, a return or back polish will be required and needs to be captured in the quote.
Added Highlighting to Pieces in Slab Layout
Pieces in slab layout became highlighted when clicked, letting the customer know where each piece belonged.
Added Waterfall Installation Charges
Install charges can be automatically added for each waterfall added to the drawing. Establishing a Release PlanAfter the second round of testing proved the new additions to be successful, a release plan for all of the suggested improvements was established.
A Series of Successful LaunchesEach enhancement was released to a small beta group before being released to the full customer base.
